This is quite easy, if you have the mind set of a Ute fan. You see, they have the intelligence capacity of half a brain. That "half" is like "mid", you know "mid-way through the 3rd quarter" meaning half way through something; mid(a): used in combination to denote the middle. To me, middle is not quite to the top, more or less mediocre hence MID.
The University of Utah is considered a "mid"-major college playing in a "mid"-major conference. Starts to make sense doesn't it? Always playing in the "mid" has a trickle down affect to those that are fans. It begins to grow on you until you are a "mid"-major college lover having the thought process of a, well, "mid"-dle thinker of sports. If you all want to consider a win over BYU as your national championship, or a huge win over a bottom feeder, enjoy yourselves. The rest of us Major Conference thinkers will continue to go after the bigger fish.
